CARBATINA
The most primitive and commonest model of shoe worn in Rome. The carabatina was made from one piece of ox hide wrapped around the foot and laced on over the instep.Cut in oxhide the shoe left the top of the foot bare, except for criss cross thonging. The sole was often turned up at the edges.
